Education, community and audience engagementTaking inspiration from the diverse programmes of St David's Hall & the New Theatre and using them as a powerful catalyst for creative endeavours, we aim to encourage people, from the youngest to oldest, to engage in and enjoy arts activity.

Romeo & JulietWales Theatre Company’s exciting new production of Romeo and Juliet promises to be a real treat for English and Drama pupils and so we are arranging a workshop before the Thursday matinee with the show’s Director Michael Bogdanov. In December 2007, as part of the national Theatre Quest project, the Arts Active team worked with pupils from Michaelston Community College to present a production of “A Singer from the Desert Came” by award winning author Jamilla Gavin. The year seven students all had an opportunity to dance, perform music and act in the production in addition to operating the lights, designing and making costumes and set, stage management, marketing and house management. The success of this pilot project has resulted in the production project.
production: is a project tailor-made to your school and circumstances that involves students in every aspect of mounting a performance. It can feed into and explore other aspects of the curriculum and relate to different productions at the New Theatre. The project gives both staff and students an opportunity to work with professional theatre practitioners and explore the myriad of jobs and tasks involved in mounting a production
At the New Theatre's sister venue St David's Hall we run regular music making workshops for school groups on our beautiful Javanese instruments. The two hour sessions support the music curriculum and are a rich source of ideas for classroom music making. Call us to find out more.

We can offer a limited number of work experience placements for pupils 15 years and above at either the New Theatre or St David's Hall. Selection is by application form and interview. The deadline for Autumn / Winter 2008 has now passed. Watch this space for the Spring 2009 deadline.

A creative programme of youth dance training and performance opportunities run by Arts Active in partnership with Diversions – The Dance Company of Wales.
2 - 4 April
Three days of dance training for young dancers aged 13-21 with Diversions dancers. Part of Future Dance Cardiff. Places are limited and there is a charge of £40 for this course.
4 - 9 August
An intensive week of dance culminating in the performance of a brand new dance production at St David’s Hall. Places are by audition and there is a charge of £75 for this course.
Termly
A weekly technique class for young dancers aged 14-19 who want to enter professional dance training. Places are by audition and there is a charge of £8 per week.
