The team behind the popular education, community and audience engagement programmes at the New Theatre and our sister venue St David's Hall now have a new name and identity - A2: Arts Active.
Education, community and audience engagementTaking inspiration from the diverse programmes of St David's Hall & the New Theatre and using them as a powerful catalyst for creative endeavours, we aim to encourage people, from the youngest to oldest, to engage in and enjoy arts activity.

See great drama for ridiculously low prices with re-act, the free theatre club exclusively for 16 to 25 year olds.
As a re-act member you can book seats for Tuesday to Thursday evening performances for JUST £5 for the following dramas at the New Theatre:

Shakespeare: The Man From Stratford
Thursday 16 September
Following immediately after the 7.30pm performance audience members are invited to remain in their seats as Simon Callow returns to the stage to answer questions about the play, his approach to the production and his journey into Shakespeare's world.
Tuesdays from 14 September, 1pm -3pm
Inspired by the production of Carrie’s War at the New Theatre, Arts Active is running a drama group at the St Mellons Community education centre. The group will be working with scripted and devised material to create a small scale performance for the New Theatre foyers.
For SchoolsWe can offer a limited number of work experience placements for pupils 15 years and above at either the New Theatre or St David’s Hall. Selection is by application form and workshop.

The Arts Active team has created a fantastic show by and for schools at our sister venue St David’s Hall. Performed by primary school children alongside professional actors this performance features a unique song cycle that addresses both local and global environmental concerns. Featuring the Mavron quartet, it is the culmination of a cross arts project working in 12 South Wales primary schools on the theme Tidy! - A tidy playground, a tidy school, a tidy town and a tidy planet.
A creative programme of youth dance training and performance opportunities run by Arts Active in partnership with National Dance Company Wales.
Termly
A regular technique class for young dancers aged 14-19 who want to enter professional dance training. Places are by audition and there is a charge of £8 per week.
